Passage to A Coruna
So Navs Nigel decided we would split this journey into two day-sails rather than another overnight passage. Sadly, the wind failed us again, so we have had 2 days of motoring. We plan to anchor, so no berthing fees to pay; a bonus.

Wednesday, we left Gijon after refuelling (again) and there was glorious sunshine all day. We anchored off Ria de Ribadero and settled for the evening with delicious tuna chowder.

An early start on Thursday at 5.30am, for the longer passage to A Coruna. The morning was cloudy, but the sun came out eventually. Light airs on both days.

We motored fairly close to the coastline which was rugged with mountains, amazing rock faces and several small bays which may be investigated in the future. The dolphins came to visit us again. Simon was not allowed to fish as we still have tuna to eat!

On Thursday, we decided to do 1-hour watches throughout the day which worked well. This meant 2 of us could alternate helm and look out, whilst 2 relaxed, read, odd jobs etc. It relieved the tedium of motoring all day. There are many fishing boats along this coastline, most without AIS (automatic identification system) so sharp eyes were needed. We did have one irate fisherman call us up on the radio and demand we change course, he didn't bother to tell us where he was or which course to steer, we guessed and avoided him, thankfully.

We anchored in a very pretty bay across from the main town of A Coruna - another free night! A peaceful, calm night and we plan to stay here for a few days until we hopefully have some wind to take us further south.

We are now 18 days into our journey and have travelled over 1000nm. Living on board is different to a charter - we always have a jobs list, just varies in length! We have all learnt many new and different skills over the last 12 months and in those low moments I remind myself just what I have achieved.

Now we have sunshine (always a boost for me) and better winds soon, there will be more highs!

Please keep the messages of encouragement coming.
