BVI cruising Norman Island, Road Town and Peter Island Monday morning, to ensure we could pick up a mooring buoy at The Indians, we left our anchorage in Privateer Bay early and arrived at 07.45. Not quite the first boat there, but after a quick breakfast, we were the first in the water. Another spectacular snorkel area with lots to see. Simon took some amazing video (Editor note - I’ll try and load a section to Vimeo and send a link). Arriving early is a must, not just to ensure a buoy is free (there are only 10) but also to avoid snorkelling with dozens of other swimmers. From there we motored down to Pirates Bight, another bay on Norman Island. Pirates Bight beach bar and restaurant was a casualty of Hurricane Irma but is now beautifully restored. We sampled their ‘painkiller’ cocktails and nachos at happy hour before returning for dinner on the boat. Tuesday morning, we set off on a ramble up the hill behind Pirates, excellent views over other harbours, huge cacti, and tucked away on the top, a helicopter landing pad. Our ARC plus flag attracted the attention of Chris (on a Moorings holiday charter catamaran) who is doing the ARC in Nov 2024. He came on board and Nigel and Simon gave him lots of information from their experience. He invited us to join him, his wife and 3 guests for dinner at the Bight restaurant; a delicious meal and a fun sociable evening. We are hoping to meet up with Chris and Caroline in the UK as they live not far from us. Today we left Norman Island and went into Village Cay, Road Town, Tortola. My nephew recommended a sail maker to repair the awnings which were damaged in the high winds last week. Matt took us to Doyles Sails, a very helpful Ed said he could repair within the day. Two new zips have been fitted, collected this afternoon, and now back on the rear frames. We have moved over to Great Harbour, Peter Island, to anchor for the night. It's very peaceful, only six boats in the whole bay, and all we can hear is the waves on the shore and goats on the hillside bleating. A quiet night with homemade painkillers, superbly mixed by Simon. Catherine ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
