A day ashore in Roscoff After a good night's sleep in Roscoff marina, we headed to the ferry port customs office with some trepidation. We were entering the Schengen zone in the knowledge that many yacht crews had found it a complicated and challenging process post Brexit. We had tried to pre-empt the process by emailing our declaration in advance and had received an acknowledgement which augured well. We arrived at 0900 and by 0930 we were checked in and cleared by the most genial customs man I have ever known, who could not have been more helpful. All that worrying for nothing! With morale much improved we headed for the old town of Roscoff, which was equally pleasant and historic. Apparently, Mary Stuart landed here at the age of 6 as Queen of Scotland to marry the king of France - lucky her! After a fortifying coffee in a local cafe, we then purchased vital stores at the local "supermarche” (wine, beer, bread and cheese). The afternoon was spent on board doing jobs (laundry, cleaning the boat, sending Simon up the mast), and planning the next leg of the passage, before a refreshing ice cream ashore. Dinner is now being concocted in the Ninja which we (Sally and Catherine, I’m learning) are slowly getting to grips with. Tomorrow is a 65 mile passage via Ushant to Camaret near Brest. The weather looks OK but the wind is not particularly favourable. The engine will get another work out no doubt! Nigel |
