Day 40 It's day 40 of our trip and we remain at anchor in Cascais. It's a great harbour, very busy, almost 40 boats at anchor. This may be due to the expensive berthing fees in the harbour. It's over €100 euros for us but luckily winter rates start tomorrow when we plan to go alongside. Evidence of how pricey it is here is the "mega yacht" pontoon complete with helicopter pad! Yesterday Sally and Simon went off in the dinghy before 8 to visit the supermarket whilst it was cooler. Bread, dorado (fish) and more custard tarts and beers bought. A lazy day with the temperature going over 30C. We had the fish at lunchtime then went ashore late afternoon when the temperature dropped a little for drinks, snacks and ice creams - Sally's favourite, cherry this time, Simon salted caramel, rum & raisin again for Nigel.. An interesting manoeuvre exiting the dinghy dock as another boat had blocked the exit and as the tide had receded his engine was jammed on the rocks. Much pushing, pulling, edging our way and finally escaped. I'm not sure how his engine fared but several scratch marks were visible on the rocks today. Today, we all went ashore early again as I decided we needed a brisk walk. 3.5 miles in an hour along the seafront and back. Cool showers at the back of the boat followed by hot coffee. Reading time on deck now prior to late brunch ashore this afternoon. Still hoping for a Monday departure to Madeira. We will keep you updated.
