I also needed to seriously think about the situation. 

My thoughts were:

1. I am not keen on Simon and Nigel going on their own despite their assurances. I know they can do it, but feel I would worry more if I wasn't on Cassini with them
2. How will I cope? Can I manage 4 days of 'watches', broken sleep. Am I capable?
3. I've never done this length of passage and unfortunately, we have not had a huge amount of sailing practice to build confidence
4. I'm here so should I just hang in there? 
5. My decision should not affect Sally; I will support her whatever she decides. I know she is more anxious about the "open sea" aspect than me and unfortunately finds it more difficult to distract herself.

A lot to think about, sleep on and early morning thoughts, meditation and prayer looking for an answer. 

It came to me. If Sally had not thought about going home, I would not have considered it. So that was my answer, I'm staying. 

I know it may be tough, another huge test of my courage, strength and resilience, but with encouragement from family and friends, I'll give it my best. I can't promise it will be smiles all the way, but it will be a big tick on my life experience. Something to tell Luke and Dax about. 

Sally is staying too so we can support each other. It is a huge challenge, but her final decision was based on a comment from a good friend from home.... would she have more regrets from not doing it than sticking on board...

Nigel and Simon are pleased, supportive and fully aware that this is a tough challenge for us both. All we need now is the right weather window to sail to Funchal in Madeira.
