Time off in Tenerife Nigel and I departed the boat very early Tuesday morning to get the ferry to Santa Cruz Tenerife. Luckily, we did a recce on Monday as the 30min walk turned out to be to the ferry office, not the terminal. With the help of a Spanish lady with excellent English, I managed to book a taxi for 06.45 to take us to the ferry. We arrived very early but at least avoided a very long walk. A pleasant crossing, my sister Anne and her husband Alan kindly met us and we drove south towards Los Gigantes where they have their apartment. We stopped off at San Juan for a much needed coffee, snack lunch with beers/Aperol spritz. A lazy afternoon then BBQ in the evening followed by the first 3 rounds of Shanghai card game. Wednesday morning; another hot day, we decided to do the shortened Alcala walk with breakfast at a local cafe. Mercadona and Lidl for supplies (several pots of cottage cheese for my sister!). Another lazy afternoon on the balcony before a walk down to the village. Beer and fizz in the hotel watching the sunset before back for another BBQ and to finish the Shanghai game. Anne won; I came 2nd. It's a good fun game which I look forward to playing with the family. After breakfast in the apartment in Thursday, Nigel and I went to the village for some gifts then we all drove back to Santa Cruz so we could get the ferry and return to the boat. It was lovely to see my sister and her husband, catch up on family news and just spend some quality time with them. Being in the apartment I realised how much I missed space, room to move around without bumping into somebody or something and a 'normal' bathroom with unlimited water. A super break. We arrived back late evening, I was ready for a shower, a glass of wine, and a catch up with Sally and Simon and hear about their adventures. Friday we treated ourselves to a leisurely late lunch at the Barracuda restaurant close by. Delicious meal with a great view. Back to reality to today, supermarket, launderette and jobs! Just two more days before the girls leave. Nigel and Simon will be busy with ARC+ preps then the first of the crew arrive on Saturday. I'm ready for home, seeing friends and family but perhaps not the weather! Looking forward to seeing as many of you I can fit in.
