Preparing for four days at sea... Sunday dawned a little too early for the Hardaker cabin… rather too much rock'n'roll on the water and slap, slap of the water on the stern; added to which the full moon weekend beach party was in full swing, with the thump, thump of the bass until 6am! I was pleased we were not any closer. It did mean however, that after a swift early morning cuppa, we were lifting and shifting to the fuel dock, a couple of hundred metres away, to be first in line for the 9am opening. Once on the fuel pontoon, Catherine and I hotfooted it to the supermarket, with trolley and bags, whilst the boys sorted fuelling and the transfer to our marina berth. By just after 10am, we were all four on board, shopping unloaded, shore power established and water tanks full again… time for coffee and fresh croissants, yum. Not long after, all batteries back at 100% from shore power. The marina is certainly at the smarter end of town; for those of you who know Cascais marina, it’s like Gunwharf quays in Portsmouth on steroids… lots of designer shops and fancy restaurants, with fancy prices to match, but it’s lovely just to wander and soak up the atmosphere… Then it was all to action stations on Cassini… Four (for four days at sea) Ninja meals to prep and cook: chicken casserole, bolognese, vegetable curry and two cakes to bake... all ready to reheat and enjoy on-the-go over the next few days. For the first time, we have had Wi-Fi access, actually on a pontoon, so all electronic devices were charged, backed up, updated with software and generally “busy”. Weather forecasts have been checked and rechecked. Library time for a while after lunch, then I think we all deserved a drink ashore before we enjoyed a steak supper on board. Post supper note…. cocktails good and truffles to follow the steak! Expect this may be the last blog for a couple of days; we’ll have the satellite on for an hour or so each day for a download of messages and to get weather updates (which we still treat with some scepticism but nonetheless scrutinise). Sally Cocktails, ‘library time’ and evening in the marina. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
