Problems solved and on our way again
What a week! Big big thanks to our friends Jean-Marc and Vanessa for all their help whilst we struggled with our water maker and dinghy problems. They very kindly allowed us to use their showers aboard. The Adventurer, fabulous 5* facilities, and then provided a delicious dinner for us. We will see them again in Dominica.

We left Bouillante on Tuesday and sailed to the marina at Pointe a Pitre. The fishing rod was out and success, a mahi mahi was caught which was sufficient for 2 meals plus some delicious cerviche prepared by Sally. We filled up with fuel and water before berthing which was a wise move as on Wednesday morning we discovered the water workers were on strike and there was no water on the jetty. Luckily the launderette was still operational so we were able to wash a large load but unable to use the marina shower facilities.

It was very hot on Weds so we stayed in the shade of the awnings most of the day. We were mightily relieved our search for a new engine was not needed, (£2000+ and weeks to arrive). After Simon’s success with the dinghy engine repair, we went ashore for cocktails before back to the boat for mahi mahi supper.

Water supply is an ongoing problem in Pointe a Pitre; we heard of one yacht who suffered 4 out of 5 days without shore water. Not ideal for such a precious commodity for yachties.

Now we have the ability to make water and use our dinghy, we were able to leave the marina yesterday morning and motored the 22 miles to Iles des Saintes (there was no wind at all). We anchored as there were no mooring buoys available and enjoyed our second mahi mahi meal. This morning we spotted some vacant buoys so moved to one which is more sheltered than the anchorage and a shorter dinghy ride ashore.

We are in total awe of our engineering expert Simon for his skill and determination to fix the outboard engine and the water maker. Although we have had to buy a new water maker part, the additional cost if we had to pay marina or other engineering staff to help fix the water maker, and, worst case, buy a new outboard engine, would have been huge. He worked so hard, ably assisted by his tool bag carrier Nigel.

It's 4 weeks now until Sally and I return to the UK, so fingers crossed for no more problems and a relaxing time exploring.
