After leaving Patillas we had another sail in light winds to Isla Caja de Muertos (which translates to Coffin Island). On the way we caught a fish, but when I eventually got it close to the boat I could see that it was a barracuda maybe 3 feet long.  This is one of the fish that is susceptible to ciguatera. It also had some pretty impressive teeth so I had two good reasons not to bring it on-board. Reluctantly I cut the line, letting the fish go and also losing one of my lures.

The island is small with no full time residents and it is a nature reserve.  It has a working lighthouse and a few buildings ashore to cater for day trippers but when we were there we had the place to ourselves.
