Erdek

Wednesday May 16

Motor 60 miles to Erdek. Current about 2kt against us for the 20 miles to the Sea of Marmara, then falls back to 1kt. Erdek is an  attractive village with a pretty small harbour. There are only a few spots we could identify that would allow us enough depth to tie up. One cement pier on the north side was occupied by fishing boats. We came alongside the 15 ft wooden face of a pier on the west side that was lined north and south  with small fishing boats and made fast . We later learned that boats tie stern to the cement wall on the east side opposite the ferry boats.

The town was a typical Turkish water front – lots of small restaurants and a few large tea houses. We chose Meydan at the western end of the strip and it was quite good – interesting Mese, lamb and fish. The usual small choice of somewhat expensive (50TL) wines
