Today was our last full day at sea before our expected arrival in the
British Virgin Islands early tomorrow morning.
The wind has remained obstinately in the south and whilst we spent the
first part of the day patiently tacking upwind, our progress slowed as the wind
died and we are now using the ‘iron topsail’ to push the last 75 miles to the
north entrance of the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
Still, glorious sunshine and smoother seas are a reasonable trade-off and
we caught a 4lb Spanish Mackerel to boost our fish stocks awaiting the frying
pan!
We will probably spend tomorrow anchored off Virgin Gorda before clearing
Customs on Monday morning, when we’ll find a marina berth somewhere for a couple
of days to do some maintenance and sort ourselves out. Hopefully the
replacement generator alternator will arrive during the week.
All’s well!
