Still getting used to our new routine with three hours
off and on watches. Catching up on sleep is so important to function
properly.
The wind is now from the South 25 knots and the sea
state is rough.
To top our batteries up, we normally use the generator,
but it would not start. So we put the engine on for a couple of hours yesterday.
Even the engine would not start again today,
so it was troubleshooting time and after all kinds of checks, we
found again lot of water in the fuel.
Draining it off and decanting the dirty fuel into the
jerry can is a messy job at sea! One solution found and the generator is up
running again.
But the big question is, where does the water come from?
We had the same problem last year. And worked on it. All systems worked
beautifully for the 9 months we cruised in Australia.
One thing we did not check before our departure, are the
seals on our fuel deck fittings. (It was on our to do list!) and with the water
pouring over the decks it could well come in from there...or our tanks have been
so well mixed up with the motion that some residue water was brought up,
although draining the diesel from the bottom of the tank showed clean
fuel...Anyway! this will keep us busy during the passage and
hopefully things can be resolved in Noumea.
Now with the engine and generator working again, we can
resume to our routine watches.
