Our hydrovane (wind self-steering gear )is working very
well down wind now. It is not the easiest point of sailing for
most self steering devices. After many fine adjustments to the sails
(double reefed main to leeward, set staysail amidships, boomed out headsail to
windward)and weather helm on the locked main rudder, as well
as various vane adjustments we are sailing in large seas, winds from
8- 18 knots in a very comfortable motion and on course for the last 24
hours.
We are settling into our sleeping pattern and enjoy
seeing each other at change over watches and mealtimes.
We had a rain squall yesterday, reminding us
of England, which prompted Paul to play Elgar...
All is well aboard and we are sending our love to our
friends and family.
