Sightseeing in Northland, NZ
35:18.69S 174:07.52E Another three weeks at anchor in Opua filled with days of sightseeing and catching up with cruising-friends from all over the globe. The laundry is always busy and full of news to catch up with. Paul is very happy to get through the list of jobs and at last we have our main VHF radio working again, so we have long distance reception, which we believe was broken since the Galapagos. Here a few photos from our vast collection of interesting sights! Our anchorage in Opua Hokianga Harbour on the West coast Lovely day outing with Sam and Marylin from ‘Cartharpin Blue’ USA The ancient Kauri Trees Forest, see the size of Tane Mahuta, the oldest living Kauri. The majestic trunk makes Paul and Marilyn look like gnomes! New Fern, a Symbol for NZ Haruru Falls near Waitangi Another great day trip was with Eric, Amy, Audrey and Martha from ‘Papillon’ (Canada) to the Glow-worm limestone cave near Kawakawa. Inside the caves we turned off the lanterns and in the pitch black we saw thousands of tiny luminescent lights emanating from the glow worms: A magic carpet of natural Christmas-fairy-lights. |
