Martinique

14:27.82N 60:52.49W We left Les Saints at midnight in the moonlight and planned a night sail to Saint Pierre, North of Martinique but as high winds were forecast and Fort de France looked so built, up we decided to sail to the South to Le Marin, where we wanted to get more gear issues sorted. We arrived in the dark at 7 pm after 19 hours at sea. Here we were able to get our SSB transmitting, due to being locked for some reason. At last we are able to transmit, which is so important to get weather information and talk to fellow sailors en route and be part of the net. We were also able to stock up on good food deals at Leader Price and Carrefour. How strange to pay in Euros and to experience France in the middle of the Caribbean. The weather was stormy with lots of rain and we were glad to have such good holding in the protected bay. It was not a beautiful place but a very practical stop over. On Sunday morning we sailed South to St Lucia.
Unfortunately, we did not see the beautiful bays of Martinique and look forward to spending more time here sometime in the distant future. |
