The
zig-zag on the chart-plotter marking the struggle of trying to head North to
Vanua Levu.
The wind and sea from the North made sailing and
motoring difficult...like a rocking horse, Kahia bounced through the waves and
it took an extra day to work our way up.
But it was worth it!!!
Savusavu Bay, the creek and the town are wonderful.
We are now safely moored on one of Waitui’s marina buoys
and had the most pleasant check in of all the countries visited so far.
All officials who came on board Kahia were friendly,
efficient and full of humour, which made it a warm welcome to Fiji.
After clearing in, Bob and Linda (s/v Bright Angel) brought cold beers on
board to welcome us and as it was already late in the day, took us in their
dinghy ashore to get money, a sim card for internet access and do some food
shopping. They gave us a quick download on the town to help us get our bearings
and another drink at the Cobra Shed yacht club was a perfect way to wind down
and share a successful passage before heading into the sunset, back on board
Kahia for a good and long night sleep.
