Motoring into the wind since last night and still
waiting for some westerly winds! The sea has settled to a gentle ocean swell and
when we were not off watch, sleeping, we were very busy getting Kahia shipshape
again.
Our portside Lazy Jacks were ripped off by the strong
winds, so we rigged up an alternative until we get to port. This meant that Paul
had to go up the mast. With the swell and motoring into the wind, he managed to
tie a rope to the mast step by the first spreader, high enough...
It was good to be able to walk around the deck and check
things over. We lost a coil of rope and one winch handle in the
storm.
We are glad to hear that Steve and Tania on 'Windigo'
have been rescued safely. To hear a boat in distress is always upsetting, but to
hear that your friends are in danger has been very hard, especially as
they could not been evacuated for a couple of days, as the waves were too
high. The rescue efforts have been remarkable. How sad
to know that they had to abandon ship and that 'Windigo' is now
drifting North off the Minerva reef.
