I only made this a separate blog because of the distance we had travelled and so you could see our route. This was our last stop before arriving at Perth. Kalgoorlie is big gold rush country. There is still a huge pit, called the Super Pit being mined 24/7. As it stands currently, mining should be able to continue here until about 2020, by simply digging deeper and wider. It is a huge operation with masses of gold being brought out each day.
The odd thing about this trip was the timing, we didn't get off the train until 8.30pm, post dinner and a glass of wine or two, so were all quite dozy on the coach, and the one and a half hour time change meant it was black dark - a strange time for sightseeing!
The town itself was practically deserted, it wasn't until a conversation the next morning that I realised that it should have been far busier - it was Friday night after all - if it's quiet then, I can't image what it's like the rest of the week.

Tomorrow we arrive in Perth for some sight seeing and a bit of respite from the old people's home before we head off on the tours we have booked, a sightseeing trip of Perth and Fremantle and a trip to the Margaret River for more wine tasting.
