This time Green Island across the channel towards the mainland. Another picture perfect bay. We swam ashore here, it was further than it looked but you could walk from about halfway in, the water was so shallow! Going across the reef by dinghy to one of the islands we saw a huge spotted eagle ray. Rays are quite common here, and we have even seen some jumping out of the water which is awesome. The reefs, although colourful, have little fish life in a lots of cases but are lovely to swim round. There is no diving allowed, but you hardly need to bother, the reefs are so shallow that when you are snorkelling you sometimes need to take a deep breathe to clear the corals!
After Green Island, we all headed out to Cayos Holandes. We made a bit of a mistake here when we went ashore. The cays are a group of small islands and reefs, but the names in our book and the names on the electronic charts are often different, that is if they are mentioned at all on the charts! Also they are often in very different positions. We made the mistake of confusing Bug Island with BBQ Island - BIG mistake, we all ended up covered in bites - oops! We did manage to find BBQ Island the next day, now renamed Turtle Island, which was lovely, there was even a restaurant of sorts - if you ordered your food in the morning, they would catch it and cook it for you.

At last a real use for a star fish! Having failed to tie his canoe properly to a tree and having to chase after it through the surf, David wondered if a star fish would make a better anchor!!!
