Day 1 - Bermuda to New York
We have left and are now on our way to the Big Apple!! Having studied the
forecasts looking for a weather window for about the last week, finally
one opened up. We could leave on Wednesday 23 May.  However, this window
came at a price, following the bad weather, the winds are forecast very
light, often less then 10 knots.  We would have to motor or at least motor
sail for a large chunk of the journey.  The other alternative was to wait
for weather more suitable for sailing but that was not forecast for
another 4-5 days and a lot can change in that time, more so because there
is a threat of another tropical storm building in a similar area to the
last one, so we could have found ourselves stuck in Bermuda again, and
although we loved the island, we are ready to move.  As this was the first
weather window for a while, there was a procession of boats heading out of
the harbour as we made our final preparations. The fuel dock has also
been busy as people have had to stock up - they must have been rubbing
their hands with glee the amount they charge there - $2 per litre!! It is
very difficult to get duty free fuel in Bermuda, without traveling to the
other end of the island, and as we are so used to duty free prices having
been in the Caribbean so long, it was a bit of a shock to the wallet!
So the first day, as we expected, we have been motor sailing all the way.
So far, it is quite strange that despite the amount of boats leaving
yesterday, we haven't seen any of them.  The radar screen is blank and has
been for the last 24 hours! The further we have gone from Bermuda, the
better the weather has become and we have been told to expect temperatures
in and around the 70s when we arrive in New York - perfect for wandering
and sightseeing.
There is little to report really from the last 24 hours, the most major
thing to have happened so far it that John's Kindle has totally refused to
work, and can't be charged either! We are chugging along quite nicely,
winds light, but there is still a bit of a roll from the swell - long may
the peace and quiet last!!

Distance so far 186/665 miles
