We passed the 2000 mile marker on Monday this week, so we all now feel that have reached the home straight. The winds over the last couple of days have increased and we are now sailing well with about 20-25 knots most of the day - our record mileage so far has been 184 miles, (yesterday). This morning we passed the '700 mile to go' mark and expect to arrive on Sunday all being well. As well as increased wind we are also getting much higher waves which are throwing us about a bit but generally helping us along in the right direction.
Our 2000 mile celebration took place on a slightly cloudy and miserable day - the last two days we have had lots of squalls - some quite heavy and we have spent much of the time dodging the rain, it has even been a bit cooler than normal. Today however all is back to normal and we are belting along enjoying the sunshine.

Enjoying the sunshine

Lance got a bit of a shock last night when he went to bed - he discovered that a flying fish had got into his cabin and was keeping his bed warm! As the fish had managed to get under the duvet and pillow, Lance is more than a slightly convinced that something 'fishy' was afoot and that Doug was the most likely suspect! There is no evidence to prove this despite Lances best efforts - he even found blood spatter patterns on the ceiling and has been trying to interpret these - Doug continues to deny any involvement, maybe Lance has seen too many episodes of CSI!!
Other than stowaway flying fish life on board continues as normal. The watermaker has been a little temperamental over the last few days largely due to the fact that we are heeling over so far, and water and showers have been rationed until we get some calmer seas. Tony however decided not to wait for the watermaker to get itself going again and to use some good free rain water for a shower - you might guess that as Tony was involved all did not go exactly to plan....

The squall hits and the rain starts, Tony decides to take a shower outside. After a 5 minute debate as to who will video Tony having a shower in the rain, (it can't be done without a video), he sets off to get the camera and most importantly the shampoo. When he returns, he sets up the camera and gives lengthy instructions as to his most photogenic side etc, etc, and pours out the largest dollop of shampoo you can imagine. He gets himself in a proper lather and... you can guess what happened next - the rain stopped, leaving Tony looking like a snowman!!! In a desperate attempt to rinse off Tony walked round the bimini shaking off the remaining raindrops until Doug decided to help out with a bucket of salty seawater.........
