There has been very little happen over the past 4 days.  I forgot to mention on my last post that we saw an Orca (killer whale) that swam 50 metres away around the stern of the boat.  It was a spectacular sight.  However, on this leg we have seen nothing.

The winds have been very light and on the nose, so we have been motoring constantly.  Paul got bored so he started polishing the stainless around the deck.  As we lost our radar and the fog horn was damaged, I suggested that he jury rig the broken unit so that at least we have something in the event of fog or bad visibility.  This took about 10 minutes to do.

It rained once;   we saw 2 AIS targets over the 4 days but no actual vessels;  we read a lot;  we dozed;  we watched the occasional movie;  we chatted - it is amazing that after more than 4 months together, we can still find things to talk about;  we carried out our watches;  we met up for lunch and dinner; every 4 days you cook lunch and dinner; we passed the Canaries but, as they were 100 miles away, we didn't actually see them.

You do get into a sort of routine but you also can't wait for the winds to arrive.  It is funny because this is the last leg of a 15,000 mile trip and, for me, the last leg of a 45,000 mile trip.  We only have about 1,800 miles to go but we are starting to become impatient to arrive in Southampton.  Because we have so little to do, and because we are so close to the end of our trip, the days do tend to drag out.

It is 11.15 on Thursday and we have actually just raised the sails for the first time in 4 days.  We are due to get some wind so let's see what happens.
