This morning we visited the fish market in Vigo which was fascinating! There were loads of stalls selling all kinds of fish and seafood so fresh it was still wiggling while they were gutting and cleaning some of it!! The big delicacy here is pulpo or octopus, so popular in fact that they have whole streets selling not much else and loads of Pulperias, restaurants selling mainly octopus. We haven't been brave enough to try yet, and it looks particularly disgusting and slimy hanging off a fish counter - not at all appetising.
After doing our jobs we headed off to Pontevedra by train. Our Spanish skills are somewhat lacking although we are just about managing to get by and make ourselves understood with a mix of French, Italian and a couple of Spanish phrases. Following instructions is a little tricky and when we bought the train tickets we were told they needed to be 'validated' so when we tried the machine which we though did this and inserted our ticket it simply made a very strange noise and eventually, thank goodness spat the ticket back out as we had no time to queue for another if they were lost.
Pontevedra was a beautiful city and here are some pictures to show you what it is like. Lunch was at a very nice tapas bar in one of the squares which is a lovely way to spend a hour or two.
Tomorrow, weather permitting as it is a little cloudy right now, we are going to the Isla des Cies at the mouth of the bay for a couple of nights peace and quiet.
