After a disappointing time in Ponce, we decided to take the easy option (or so we thought) and head to the beach for a night or 2. There were loads of hotels on the map, all along the south coast and round to the east. Despite this, finding somewhere suitable was almost impossible - all the hotels were less than impressive and by lunchtime we were all getting a bit fed up and ready to give in and head home.
Sue and I got out to go the post office and in the meantime, the boys decided that we weren't giving up and so we drove on, past the boat and eventually ended up at the Wyndham Grand Resort, an enormous holiday hotel with 2 golf courses in the grounds. Having managed to get a discounted room rate we opted to stay for 2 nights to celebrate Alan's birthday on the second night.
Fortunately, as we we're in the middle of nowhere and didn't want to drive, the hotel restaurants were good, they have an Italian and an Asian fusion among others. The only problem is the portion size - huge!! The food is actually good value but difficult, if not impossible, to finish.
Two nights here has been really relaxing, we have spent all three days lazing by the pool, reading and topping up our tans. The hotel rooms are nice and spacious after some of the others this week, although this time it was our turn to move rooms.  Previously, Sue and Alan has gone to lie down for a pre-dinner nap in Ponce to find their bed full of termites and had to move, and here our air conditioning was stuck open and was blasting freezing cold air into the room making the temperature unbearable. Although this was fixed, the whole room was running with condensation and when we got back at midnight everything was damp, so we changed rooms. Aside from that small inconvenience, it has been a fab end to a great week, with great company. We celebrated Alan's birthday in fine style in the Asian restaurant with the obligatory bottle of birthday champers!!
Tonight we get back to reality - having dropped bags off at the boats, it is straight off to the supermarket to stock up both boats for the next few weeks as the hire car goes back at 9am tomorrow. Then we have all the laundry and cleaning to do before we go to one of the other smaller islands, Vieques or Culebrita. After that we will head back to the Virgin Islands.

The sea looks great from here, but was very brown and sandy close up, so we didn't venture in

 Birthday cocktails!
