After a fab few days in St Croix, we set sail on Sunday back towards Vieques. We had thought the wind would be behind us, and we would get a nice downwind trip, but not to be. The only consistent thing about the wind was that is changed in speed and direction constantly for the whole trip, making motoring the only option if we were to get there at all!
We arrived about lunchtime, and our friends, Paul & Debra arrived a couple of hours later whilst we were at customs clearing in. After a BBQ and a couple of glasses of wine, it was a reasonably early night for all.
Monday did not start out as the best of days, although winds were light enough to get our foresail back up again - at last! We had a few minor issues, not least that the knot joining the half length halyard to the second half of the halyard got stuck coming out through the mast, ripping off the guide in the process. We had to drop the sail again and re-attach the guide with a bit of silicone glue and the use of Paul's rivet gun - now a new 'must have' on John's shopping list! Second attempt, the sail went up almost without a hitch, as the knot came through this time, it was helped along by a very large screwdriver and we were all done!
That being the main job for the day - there can only be one big job a day, we spent the rest of the day swimming and relaxing. Monday is one of our 'fast days' as the crew of Seaduced have decided to try the 5:2 diet, where you have only 600 calories for two days a week. Usually we have all our calories at the end of the day in one meal, rather than throughout the day, which seems to work for us. It does limit your social life on these days though - we had to say no to dinner on Jay Jay on Monday and re-arrange for Tuesday! We are now both discovering the calorie free 'treat' of soda water with a large chunk of lime squeezed in! What with dinner on Jay Jay on Tuesday and a vey tasty lunch with Paul and Debra in Isabel as well, we certainly made up for our lack of calories on Monday.
We are now debating when to leave for Anguilla. It is most likely that we will have to motor all the way to get there in a sensible time frame, as the prevailing winds are easterly and our course will be about 87 degrees. We will either go Wednesday or Thursday, it is nicer to motor into less wind than more - a lot less bumpy!
Again, I am sorry to say, no new pics! I keep forgetting to take the camera - I think it is because I have been here before! No excuse though is it?
