Christmas Day dawned hot, hot, hot here in Santa Marta. After a leisurely breakfast and spending the morning catching up with friends and family at home and here in the marina, it was down to the serious business of preparing Xmas dinner. Plans have been afoot for this for sometime now and we had managed to get all the necessary ingredients between us during our last few stops.
We had a real safari-style supper, the starter of salmon and caper terrine with pesto and pine nut bread was on board Seaduced, there was a minor dilemma in the morning when I went to defrost what I thought was a side of smoked salmon only to find it was a salmon fillet that needed cooking - oops! A quick fridge raid provided all the necessary ingredients with only a few substitutions needed, and I was saved.
The main course, was on a Suzie Too, although it had been cooked between the boats as neither off us could manage all of the elements on our own!
Dessert was served on the dock, along with the crews of three other boats in the marina and the spread included our cheese and biscuits platter, traditional Xmas pudding and brandy butter and mince pies, all washed down with another bucket full of wine - by 9.30pm we were all exhausted, full of food and drinks tucked up in bed!
Boxing Day started late, with another visit from Dino with more papers to sign. Then after breakfast, we set off for the traditional Boxing Day walk, only ours was on the beach. The beach here is not particularly nice, even though it is a tourist resort that gets regular visits from the cruise ships. The people who holiday here are mostly Colombian and even when the cruise boat was in, there was little evidence of English being spoken in the town.
