This wil be our last stop-off in Spain, as tomorrow we sail for Portugal. Baiona has been variously described in our books as beautiful and also over-rated so we decided to see for ourselves. The town when you arrive looks like any other Spanish seaside resort but it is only when you walk behind the main promenade that you find the old town which is a maze of alleys, plazas and tiny streets/roads - we didn't quite work out which was which and got surprised by cars a few times! At night the whole place came alive as most of the buildings were in fact tapas bars with tables outside. We wandered round and chose bars based on how the tapas looked and stayed for a second drink where it was free! The first place served us whole unpeeled prawns and clams with macaroni which is by far the best freebie so far. Free tapas ranges form gourmet delights as described to a few soggy crisps in a bowl. Tapas is nearly always available to buy as well although if you are lucky enough to find it, free food with each drink makes for a very cheap night out.
Unfortunately, as I forgot to take the camera out, there is just one photo, taken of the castle as we left, to show you.
