We have now arrived in Mystic and are making final preparations to fly home to the UK for three weeks from tomorrow, (20/9). Berthing here was very stressful, we are berthed between four piles, and we advised by the marina staff to come in without fenders, seriously, the normal stress level of berthing was massively increased! With the help of two guys on the dock we managed to get her in, berthed and settled without too many problems - I stuck to my guns and put a couple of fenders out against the piles in the middle of the boat, much to their amusement, but as I explained, I would sleep far better with at least some protection against the docking piles!
As is usual whenever we leave the boat there seems to be an ever-increasing list of jobs to be done, but as we arrived a day earlier than planned we are pretty much good to go now and even had an afternoon off. The storm that we had been expecting arrived true to form last night about 9pm and it either rained hard or blew hard all night! The back of our boat was slapping in the water, and all around us halyards were slapping against the masts of other boats, musical during the day, but torture at night! Also, even thought the wind was not as strong as we feared, it was still loud enough to disturb sleep at 30knots. Add to this the torrential downpours and the dripping of water off various parts of the boats and onto the deck once the rain has stopped, and you can imagine how the crew were feeling this morning, especially as we were out at 5am in the dark moving fenders around - good job we had then on or we would have dented a stanchion or two along the sides! Storm still hanging about this morning, but by this afternoon it had cleared to a gorgeous sunny day.
Anyway, enough moaning, we will be back in wet and damp England until 11 October, and I will really have something to moan about!!! The blog will resume on our return.
