Day 3 - Bermuda to New York
A bit of a change in the weather today - some squalls were forecast and we
are right in the middle of them now! It is pouring with rain and we are
sheltering inside and doing our watches from the comfort of the navigation
station. Another tanker came into our range this lunchtime - a bit too
close for comfort at less than a mile away, but apart from that all quiet
on all fronts!
Post lunch, we had a few quite dramatic squalls - one left our cockpit
swimming in water, this is normally an almost totally dry area! This time
when the squalls hit, instead of reefing the sails, which we would usually
do as they usually bring strong unpredictable gusts, we got the sails up
and had a couple of hours quiet sailing while watching out from the
comfort of inside.
Since last night though, we have been motor sailing again as the wind is
now less than 10 knots again. This morning we awoke to brilliant blue
skies and fabulous sunshine. With only about 24 hours to go to our first
New York waypoint, things are getting more exciting. We even spotted a
fishing boat last night, and we have now both seen our own pod of
dolphins. The sea today is flat calm and like a silk sheet, so calm in
fact that you can see the reflection of the clouds on the surface,
beautiful!
