Day 5 - 5 May
Highlights of today, very few! We have covered 150 miles and seen nothing
but sea and sky, and there has been nothing on the AIS or radar within a
50 mile range. Having said that we spent some of the time making sure we
missed the weather buoy, as even though we should in theory pass it about
15 miles away, it doesn’t mean to say you couldn't drift towards it if you
weren’t taking notice, or that the buoy hasn’t moved.
A couple of other things, we have had a false alarm on one of the bilge
pumps in the sail locker, when a change in the wind direction has allowed
the residual water used to clean it out to activate the alarm. It does
now seem to have stopped, but we did check there was no water in the
locker as it was running and running. Also, the smoke alarm in the engine
activated today, but there seemed to be no obvious fire related problem -
we have put it down to the fact that a water repellent spray had been used
in the engine room to protect the steering system, and that when this got
hot, this has caused the alarm to sound.
The weather stayed very calm over night. Hoping for a bit of wind tomorrow
so we can get the sails up and give the engine a rest, also, we can get a
rest from the constant engine noise!

Distance so far 786/945 miles
