The morning was misty and light rain as we piled into a taxi on the Island
of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands, at 8 am, we started two days of
travelling to get back to El Salvador. We drove over the highlands of the
volcano that created the island, passing in and out of the mist, weaving
through the plantations of banas etc that have come up on this island,
arriving at the north tip by 9.30. We then unloaded into a ferry for a short
trip across the channel, and then a bus (actually the second one as the
first broke down coming to collect us) and we headed to the airport which is
in the center of this northern island Balatra. The airport was a typical
airport out of the third world, lines of people everywhere, all confused and
trying to jump line. With the boys we sail through, and on we go, flying
over the islands and landing in Quito 2 hours later, where we had a 3 hour
stop before getting on the flight to LIMA.
Lima we arrived late at 9.30 pm, and by the time we got to the hotel and
collected our left baggage it was 11 pm, and we still had a limited dinner
so we snatched some sandwiches and set off the bed. The night trip in from
the airport in Lima gave us a different look at the town, which was all
lights / casinos and memories of Vegas (on a small scale) came flowing back.
Today we leaving at midday to fly back to El Salvador after grabbing some
essential buys like reading glasses etc before we leave.
