We are staying put today at Los Frailes (23:22.834N 109:25.243W), as the
wind has maintained at 20 + knots even saw a sprinkle of rain this morning
as the weather system moved over. So we tucked in behind the big rock
headland we catching gusts 20+ but the fetch is small and the boat is
holding well in a sand bottom at 32 feet. We are here with 12 other boats
all waiting for the wind to pass, next to us there is a 38 foot Morgan with
2 kids on board same age as Sean, they have gone ashore to explore, it is
nice to see our first kid boat these will no doubt become important in the
upcoming months (we found a second one in the bay as well). We went ashore
this morning to explore the beach (it was 10 years ago Tracy and stayed here
on our honeymoon and said one day we would anchored off here in our boat, it
only took us 10 years!!!!). We had a long walk along the superb, fine golden
beach initially by ourselves and the wind behind us, then the walk back we
were into the wind. We were able to meet a family from Cabo here to fish and
negotiated with them a ride for Steve back to Cabo airport late this
afternoon so he can be at the airport to meet PAM his wife, they will hire a
car and have a couple of days in La Paz and we will meet them there probably
Monday. So Ed and I will go on tomorrow if the weather forecast holds, our
meal standard will drop as Steve has maintained a great standard of food
coming out of the Galley, we will miss his cooking and team effort on board,
he has been a positive member of the crew, thanks Steve from our stomachs
and team.
It's nice to be in what I feel is our first cruising destination as these
are all boats who are heading in our direction or heading to the main land,
all on the same attitude to life eg enjoy and explore, we met a few this
morning on the beach, there are a couple from Canada and one from South
Africa. Tracy has booked with the kids to get here on the Jan 23rd, which
will give me a couple of days to do maintenance on the boat and add water
cooling to our refrigeration (a job that I failed to do before I left and I
have all the parts). We will be able to clean and wash the boat and switch
it from a Passage boat to local island cruiser as our aim over the next 2
months is to explore the islands off La Paz and up the Baja side of the Sea
of Cortez and settle into as a family this new way of life using La Paz as a
base as it is well supplied.
