waves crash in the background on the other side of the peninsula (1/2 mile
away), the panga fish men rush past as if on a freeway heading for the sea,
(it is all about time at sea and tides to cross the bar). The birds are out
singing, and dive bombing the fish off to my starboard side. The sun is just
warming the back of my neck as it peeps over the horizon behind me, I am
sitting on the aft of the boat on what I call my back porch. I have the BBC
world service on which is my link to the outside world and news, I enjoy
catch up, as I look at the water shimmering in the golden light (today the
volcano in Iceland is causing havoc with flights in Europe, with this I turn
my head to the right to look at the volcano sitting dormant and majestic
there).
It is a time of day where you vitalized as everything is coming to life,
full of activity, yet still very peaceful, I use it to reflect on life and
the day a head. I have been a big believer in giving yourself time to
reflect and look at yourself, this was when I was working or when I am
cruising, it gives me sense of comfort and purpose to the day ahead, too
often in the mad rush of life we miss this and just get caught into a
routine.
What am I going knock off the list today, Tracy and family are still
sleeping, (this is good as by being in one place for 2 weeks the boys have
settled down and this is giving Tracy more sleep). There is a worker down
cleaning one of the fishing boat to my port, it is a sport fisher and since
it is weekend it will be going out today they have been preparing it all
week.
A fishing canoe has just past on the starboard side out in the river, with
looks like a father and son (the son could not be much older than 6) he is
in the bow and feeding out a fishing net, to catch the fish on the tide
running out, which is running out at 4 to 5 knots. The sight of the dugout
wooden canoe against the water and the palm trees in the background.
We see the other early risers on the cruisers coming out, slowly with
starting jobs while it is still cool.
My jobs today will be clean and lubricate the fishing equipment, do
instructions for the generator starting so they can be printed as others
will have to start it while we are gone, maybe do the 6 month service on the
forward head, (not pleasant but needs to be done and I have to remove it
from the boat). The list of jobs is well down now and all critical ones are
complete, everything now is nice to have and I do them before the sun gets
too hot. This then allows me time to spend with the boys in the middle of
the day.
I am also making plans with the other cruisers and hotel for Tracy's 40th
birthday tomorrow, we had to go to town for sparkling wine, and a different
market town for mint for the Pims, we have the cake on order (not sure how
it will come out) and I picked up birthday cards for the boys and I in
Spanish for Tracy. Presents which some lens for her camera will have to wait
until we are in the USA again.
Well I can hear the boys waking it is time to start moving.
The day starts!!! At least no travel to work!
