I worked on different jobs, the main one being the windlass which I pulled apart and then phoned the manufactures and it looks like we have stripped part of the gears, which is a pain as it can only be fixed by a rebuild and that will not happen before Australia, or a new one. So I have started on a manual system to bring up the anchor using the mast winch we will still use the main windlass for the heavy lifting and pulling the anchor out of the mud. It is a pity but I can't complain as the windlass is 30 years old (the only original equipment on the boat) and has worked well, just a pain now.
The weather looks like it is combining south of us to make the 140 miles around Peninsula Nicoya, not worth making the passage for at least another week. We have a huge sell coming in from Easter Island , combined with a low off the Nicoya coast, a opposing current and Nicoya being a magnate for large short surf means we would be going around with 20 knots on the nose, and 8 to 10 foot seas at 7 seconds, which would be like a washing machine. So we have discussed between the boats and we are in a beautiful calm, and safe bay, and great beach and access to things that we will stay here for a week why move especially when we not in a rush.
It was confirmed with me when I was on the beach this afternoon with Tracy and boys it is just wonderful. We went for a short walk and saw monkeys running across the tree tops in the wild above us, so free to just jump from tree to tree etc. Coatamundis (like land possums) running about, birds flying about, herons and other waders paddling about us. The sun reflected off the 3 boats with the reflection shimmering towards us over the lake like water. I was sitting in the water on the sand about knee depth, listening to jungle sounds, absorbing the scenery and place, and saying why move on. This is what you pictured Costa Rica to be like, and it is nice it is true we pleased we have a remote bay inside of the bigger bay.
Tomorrow we are walking inland and exploring.
