Galapagos Day One

Hi Folks,

Well after a few beers , spag bo and fruit salad we all crashed out by 8 o/c PM ... yes I know lightweights but it had been a long day as the passage between the Isles with both Admiralty and US charts saying do not use for nav in this area ! its a bit worrying when the two most foremost chart suppliers say that , but we will get more of this the further we progress into the Pacific , its back to the mark one eye ball which always seems to come up trumps , I had both in use on entry to Academia bay , the chart plotter pot us up the high street , this was the case in the San Blas Isles as well .. makes for a comfortable night in theory ! anyway we are well lashed to the sea bed , and a good nights sleep was had by all , I have not had to get the big beast anchor from the hold but the rest of them thought it was coming out yesterday , its reputation proceeds it , I quite fancied the Idea of displaying it prior to launch , it would have struck fear into anyone with back problems that's for sure weighing in at 200 lbs. or 100 kilo , which ever your back prefers !
This morning has been spent discussing trip options , we are off to South Seymour Island tomorrow , its a 9 hr hike there and back via bus and boat , the spiel for it sounds good though .
Friday we are going to the Darwin centre to look at the Large Tortoises , and the research facilities , plus a look around the town , it grown a bit since they wrote the pilot books , infact the subject of pilot books is a niggle of mine as most of the guys who write these books either do " Nick" tours ie visit for a morning and move on ""or scrounge the info from other yachts as mostly to date they have been either very misleading or down right lies , the yachting press big up these authors , but I don't think they will publish my drip in the yachting world but somebody should get a grip of them , the amount of books published by these orgs coins in loads of dosh from us all , its like shooting fish in a barrel as we traipse in to the book shop view exotic pilot books with pics and purchase in vast quantities , the biggest offender seems to be Mr Cornells " Noon site" its info on this area is sketchy to say the least, the reality is that it is very organised and efficient with the authorities being competent and not in the same mode as Panama , it would not be hard to obtain this info , the tourist info centre would have done it for free , the facilities for yachts are very organised with garbage collection , fuel deliveries , clearance in and out all catered for in an efficient manner.
Anyway enough of my winny , we are doing a drop of maintenance onboard , the scouting party have returned with large amounts of leaflets and info , so we will mull further over the info with a cold beer and a sarnie .

That all folks for now
