"Exploring in my shorts"

Hi Folks,
Yesterday we went exploring the Spanish forts"Fort
San Fernando,Fort Castillo Santiago de la Gloria , and Castillo San Jeronimo
they are dotted around the bay of Portobelo , the one which we are moored
near is Fort San Fernando, as the Spanish left it in the 1800s , the powder
magazine is still intact and the main fortifications are in reasonable order
considering the passage of time , it is interesting that all the blocks that
they made for the construction of the wall were mainly cut from Brain coral , so
somewhere along this coast they must have removed thousands of tons of reef to
construct these forts , on the other side the forts were in just in as
good condition they were built with slave labour and the current inhabitancy of
the town are of that descent , apart from the Chinese who own the three small
supermarkets .
  The day before we went on one of Ruth's
expeditions, she had seen the route on a drawing on one of the towns tourist
maps ( kiddies pencil drawing) to Bahia Sucia which was just like a David
Attenbrough romp up the Limpopo , Two "rubber ducks" Ike Becky Dan and Etian in
one boat and the rest of us including Lyn freshly recovered from a dose of
"Colons finest bums rush ", Lyn was dressed as Katherine Hepburn " You must look
after me in the mangroves darling " the rest of us were wrapped and mossi
sprayed up to the hilt , we went as far as we could , along the way we passed
through small lakes , no alligators , otters or sloth's were sighted ,
just a few birds !
  the whole journey took about two and a half hrs ,
on our return we adjourned to the G and T positions , and then had a game of Uno
, we invited Rhythms crew over so eight of us were around the table , playing
Zephyrs rules , Ruth won after eight games , Daniel was a bit miffed as we
didn't play "Rhythm rules and used this as an excuse for not winning a game , I
of course was just sussing out the competition , there seems to have appeared a
inner group within the game , the circle of trust ! it is a coven
consisting of the three female members of the crews , they seemed to win all the
games except one and were sitting very close to one another , I was stuck
between them so I guess that's why I didn't win a game !
