Hi Campers
All's well on the good ship lolly pop, our bottoms
have now recovered, today we went to look for a ship wreck on our chart but
after a few hrs of trolling up and down we found nothing, but we did find a
exquisite reef, the best coral so far in the size , it covered a whole 80 or 90
sq. metres, tons of fish around as well , the water wasn't as clear but the reef
made up for it in its sheer diversity of life, I think this area of Tonga has
the least impact of the human kind and tourism in particular , everywhere it
seems the tourism expands the reefs contract , it the sheer volume of waste we
produce and consume I suspect , anyway its great here , I suspect I will even
find the lobsters I have been seeking all this time in the Pacific
!
Another discovery in a local grave yard was
Iron wood , a rare wood I am told by a certain Ship wreck , I will consult
further with him via em.
Apart from that we had coffee with the crew of
"Trenelly" who attempted to clear customs and immigration, no joy as they were
all shut, I believe they are supposed to work Sat mornings according to the
brochure !
The mass exodus has started from Neafu with
six boats that we know starting off for Minerva reef to await the green light to
run south to NZ , we have to be in Nuka'lofa by the 31st of October as Trevor
from NZ will be arriving for the last leg to NZ via plane and we have to get him
put on the ships papers then clear out if the weather is favourable and make a
run for it to the Bay of Islands.
The weather here in the Haapai group is much
warmer than the Vavua group of islands its only downfall is that it is exposed
to anything from the west, we have a few more days to idle away as there is no
wind forecast till Monday at least then we will be off to Nuku'alofa for our
final anchorage before the big one south ..
A crew so laid back they could limber dance under
the crapper door at Harrods
