Hello loyal readers!
It is a fine Saturday morning and we have to debate what we are going to do for the weekend. I favour a round of golf - apparently our nearest course is really quite good since Donald T gave it to the yachting community. Huon not unreasonably has doubts about this, pointing out that I have never swung a golf club in my life (and of course the nearest land is 330 miles away). Instead, H wants to go water skiing so before I even had breakfast I was up shovelling coal for the great steam engine (ok, running our diesel generator to charge the battery), shaking out the reef so that we have the full mainsail set, and resetting the large reaching sail that we took in yesterday. Our speed is over 6 knots, but of course the wave height of 3.5 metres today would put a very wet ‘dampener’ on that idea if it was a serious one!
By this stage in a passage we should both be rested and feeling on top form but a combination of quite rough weather, (H is 90% free of any sea sickness), needing to make quite a few sail alterations and above all the “Hampshire hack” means we are still quite tired. We both came away with the annoying cough that seems to be doing the rounds at the moment. Someone in the village called it the hundred day cough but I hope they are wrong. However it is really costing us both sleep.
Despite my feeble jokes about golf and water skiing, it is remarkable that we are kept quite busy. I got up at 0600 this morning and have not really sat doing nothing since then (now 1000) Huon is just getting up after his watch below.
Best wishes from us both
