Land Ho!

A few moments ago I sighted land - the southernmost point of the GB mainland, The Lizard. It is 8 miles away. What a contrast to the start of this trip where I could still see Madeira at over 40 miles! The log said 1105 miles but it under-reads because the GPS distance to Madeira is 1104.
The 8 miles to get past the Lizard will be hard work as the tide is against me, there is choppy water with a tidal race and I am hard on the wind. It is51 miles to Plymouth so I will probably arrive early evening.
The last 24 hours have seen some fast sailing -171 miles in 24 hours! The last night at sea was always going to be a party night, and so it was. Every fishing boat in the world seemed determined to come close and force me to alter course. Sleep was not a significant activity in all of this, but never mind.
This will probably be the last blog entry. I’ve just got to eat that last stick of celery! I was taught to enjoy sailing and all the rewards it can bring by my late father. He died 10 years ago and yesterday would have been his 100th birthday. I shall raise a glass of something in a silent toast later..
Thank you so much for following this rambling blog!
