We had a varied sail from Sao Jorge to Angra on Terceira. It started as a grey morning and for a while it rained. The wind was SE - on the nose but rather variable and indeed over the course of half an hour we found our heading varied wildly and at one point we started to motor. Then it all cleared up and we had a fine reach. Perfect opportunity to get out the new reaching sail. This sets on a mini bowsprit which was made for me by extending the very mini bowsprit that came with the boat to set a cruising chute. Unfortunately the extended version was not up to the mark and broke. We recovered the sail but of course could not roll it so it was loosely bundled into its bag. Very frustrating and I think we will miss it on the return passage to UK but I am sure we can not get a new bowsprit fashioned here in time.

Today we had a laundry session and general clear up and then saw Susanna off to the Airport. As always it has been such fun to have her aboard. She fits in and there is never a moment's tension. I went with her to the airport and met Malcolm and Judy who were inbound on Susanna's flight. This is the second or third time that they have directly taken over from Susanna and we know we are in for a great week with the 4 of us on board (and then 3 when Emily flies home and Malcolm and Judy do the passage back with me).

There is a lovely beach just next to the marina and I think some of the sand is imported! We all went round there for a refreshing swim and unfortunately Emily was stung by a jelly fish. She developed a very nasty local reaction but so far nothing systemic, thank goodness.
