Hurrah! I gybed to port at 0240 this morning to head in towards Cascais, my destination. At 0440 I started the engine, furled the sails and motored alongside the reception pontoon at the marina. arrived! 861 miles at sea in 6 days, 14 hours and 50 minutes. 5.4 knots average does not seem terribly fast, but a good average.

It has been a really easy passage compared to my trip to the Azores 2 year’s ago, when I had some of the worst weather I have ever seen in over 50 year’s sailing. This time has been pure pleasure (OK hard work sometimes), nothing has failed and all arrived in good shape.

Cascais is a lovely seaside town near the entrance to the R Tiejo and just a short train ride from Lisbon itself. We’ve been here before, first in 1986 and then again in 2004 when Emily joined Andrew and I as we made our way down to Cadiz for the following year’s Trafalgar celebrations. I shall be here for a few days until Emily arrives and then we will be off again, so no more blogs until the end of the week.

it took a while to get all the mooring lines sorted and tidy up and then, gosh have I slept!

And guess what? It is raining and for the first time since leaving home I will have to put waterproofs on!

Peter
