Despite the satellite communication problems (now sorted) and consequent lack of detailed weather updates, I had a fabulous trip out here and arrived in Cascais (Lisbon) yesterday at about 0600. I had favourable winds all the way after the first few hours and toward the end of the Biscay part and on down the coast of Spain and Portugal I had N or NE winds of Force 6 and 7 with lots of gusts of F8 so thank good there were no speed camera deployment. It would be such a pity to have to go on a speed awareness course under sail!
The new electronic equipment we fitted has been really superb. Matt, Darren and Keith at PRSystems in Plymouth did a superb job fitted and configuring it all. The generational improvements are hard to appreciates, but having complete confidence in accurate data and reliable precise self steering have really helped. Above all, improvements in radar and AIS have given me reliable information about ships and fishing boats. This has of course allows easier sleeping although I was pretty tired when I arrived yesterday.
So now I have a few tasks in hand but mostly just looking forward to Emily’s arrival on Saturday.
