I think I can write with reasonable confidence that this is our last day at sea. Funnily it was the first morning (including the first passage toLisbon) that I have seen the sun rise. 0700 - much later than at home and a ball of rather red sun emerged. However that was the last we have seen of it. Our waypoint is just N of the island of Graciosa and we plan to make our first stop there. It is just 40 miles away, hence the confidence! We put the big spinnaker up before breakfast so we are slipping along in F4 wind.

Of course the first sight of land is always a game on board - who and when. Visibility varies hugely of course but at home 15-20 miles is good. Two years ago, coming back from the Azores, we could still see land nearly 50 miles away. High mountains showing above the cloud. I don’t think it will be like that today.

We will let you know,

Peter
