Wow! Just look at the map! I really am across the Bay, now. Bayona is about 80 miles away and Lisbon250. I’ve decided to press on to Lisbon. I love the Spanish Rias but there is not time to enjoy them, so on it is. I have about 40 miles (perhaps6 hrs) to change my mind and if I want or need a break, there are other places to stop between the two, including Oporto.

Last evening I wrote that I had hardly been out all day. Well I made up for it later and was out in the cockpit more during the night than I had been during the day. Trimming sails and minor course changes in response to wind shifts and a couple of other boats needed watching - one a massive tanker and the other a yacht. Also during the evening I was rewarded by a school of dolphins playing in our bow wave. They are so playful and a real delight whatever the weather. I have also seen a whale (or was it our nuclear deterrent?) blowing astern a couple of days ago.

I celebrated the good progress with proper breakfast this morning - I went for the a la carte rather than the standard muesli and had half a grapefruit and a boiled egg. Since the generator (which produces 240 volts) was running to charge the batteries , I also made some toast. As the Master Barber observed on seeing a photograph of Pemandia “ You are not slumming it then!”

I’ve also had the engine running for half an hour, not to give propulsion, but because the cooling water circuits through a small hot water tank. I am about to have a hot shower!
