Hi Everyone,
We are enjoyed our 1st day in Australia, we went on a railway up the
mountain, which was built in 1800's it took 6 years to build, they had to
chop large
tree's to use as prop's and dug 15 tunnels through the mountains by hand, it
took us an hour & half to get to the top, beautiful scenery & loads of
waterfalls.
At the top there is an aboriginal craft village, saw some lovely things,
then on to the wild life park, where I got to cuddle a Koala, she smelt of
Eucalyptus tree,
that's what they eat all day long or sleep, she was lovely, had a smilie
face, and coat felt like fleece.

Alan feed a Kangaroo & the Wallabies' the Crocodile's looked like plastic,
so I asked a warden & she said they where real, it was cold for them and
they go like
statue's & blend in if they see something they want to eat they then pounce,
so didn't hang around there, after that we got on a Gondola that took you
over the
top of the rain forest, we got off twice and the warden took us in to the
forest & told us about the tree's and animals & the waterfalls, so we had a
good day out.
We sailed to Port Douglas, which was very quaint, a real old fashioned town
with a railway station, it reminded me of the Blue Bell Railway.

We went on a day trip to snorkel the great Barrier Reef, when we stopped for
our first snorkel, they started feeding the sharks, so needless to say I
took a long
time getting ready, in hope they were full up by the time I got in, we had
to wear a lycra suit a hood so we didn't get stung by the jelly fish, I
looked like Nora Batty as
mine was so long, it was all wrinkly at the feet, they were one size fits
all!
Luckily the sharks swam off after the feed, we saw some giant coral & fish,
then back in the boat for lunch & a second snorkel, the third we saw a
lovely Turtle and Napoleon
Fish which ate out of your hand, and large table top coral, so we all came
back exhausted.

We have just had an over night sail, to Lizard Island in 40 knots of wind
and lashings of rain, and that's inside the reef, it is meant to be
beautiful here but can't tell through the rain,
thank goodness for our new canopy's, the Idea was to snorkel here, but we
are going to press on hoping the weather will improve.

Hope Everyone is Ok, Lots of Love Margaret & Alan - Mum & Dad xxxx
