Just a Fastnet to go.......

Hi Guys,

Another cracking day with a mileage of 201 Miles to follow on from the 206 mile record of the previous day. Better still, we are still heading in the right direction and following the Great Circle run line to the destination. At the time of writing, we have 669 Miles to go which is less than the mileage of the Fastnet.

Last night we celebrated achieving the 1000 mile mark with a beer up on deck watching the sunset once again......still no illusive green flash though.

The current that we were enjoying has unfortunately turned against us and today has brought thick cloud and a drop in temperature with a more changeable forecast coming our way in the next day or so. Time for a shower and a change to warmer clothes.

We are gradually seeing more wildlife and this morning brought three separate pods of dolphins playing alongside the boat and crossing back and forth through the bow wave. Always a very welcome sight. Still hoping to get a sight of a whale but none so far.

We have had to drop the poled out headsail that has proved so useful in the last 24 hour run and have gone back to the more traditional head sail set up. Great to see we are still stretching out our lead over the other (mostly larger) boats that set of on Saturday and we are actually hunting down one of the catamarans that set off two days before us. Minimole is the only one getting closer from behind but she is a trimaran and not in our class.

Ross cooked a fabulous salmon pasta dish last night and tonight it is James’s turn in the galley to muster up something from the mainly tinned ingredients we are now left with.

It is difficult to predict with any certainty an arrival time, particularly with the changeable forecast ahead, however we hope to be in Horta sometime on the 2nd June. Bearing in mind the route we had to take to miss the storm Anna and then the high pressure zone blocking our path, that will be a considerable achievement.

Best wishes from all aboard the good ship Nina........

Nick
