..where we are spending our third night since the arrival of Sue n Terry and myself on Thursday evening. No sailing as yet which means I can write about things I do know rather than things I am - to put it mildly - unsure of. The sailors amongst us can wax both lyrical and knowledgable re our nautical adventures as from tomorrow.
So - what's been occurin'?
We had a look around the island, and a simple bus trip around the Montana del Fuego (Mountain of Fire) basically a huge area covered in various forms of volcanic rock, lava and whatever else an angry volcano spews up over 19 days, turned out to be a bus ride which outdid any roller coaster ride in terms of fear factor at certain points en route. Guess who said "oh look the front seats are free - let's grab them" ? It quickly became obvious why that was..fascinating little tour though. Also a few things that impressed me, having seen the extent of the devastation...how the locals have made positive use of the end results of a very negative occurrence, mainly thanks to the artist/sculptor Cesar Manrique, the lava rock are in evidence and used throughout the island in many differing, useful and beautiful ways....and "Oy, Wales, this is your chance to make use of your slag heaps!" And don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.
Arrecife is an interesting town, once explored....always something unexpected around the corner and Sue has some amazingly artistic photographs to prove it.
I'd better shuffle off to shower and let somebody else be blogtastic!
