Just after dawn Thursday 24th November.
Overnight we have been making good progress with the 2
genoas poled out as we run towards 20N 30W which at the moment is our chosen
waypoint. The wind keeps changing frequently though, which always seems to push
us further west which is nearer to St Lucia but we want to get south to try for
the trade winds. The forecast is for a very large area of little wind towards
which we are heading.
The picture shows us in the little bit of sunshine we
have had. Most of the time it has been quite cloudy.
Everything is going well, the fruit is ripening at an
alarming pace. We have been eating bananas, mangos and pineapple as fast as we
can, not to mention the large number of red peppers we have on board. But
food has been excellent, harmony is excellent and for 3 men on a
boat Christine is quite tidy.
Yesterday we tried all manner of sail combinations to
try to sail our desired course rather than where the wind wants to take us.
Briefly we had the large parasailor sail up but as soon as we had it flying the
wind increased to 24 knots and we had a major job getting it down. This was made
worse by the rope which had been fastened so the skipper was struggling mightily
until Peter suggested we release it and all the problems we solved. Better clear
thinking required by the skipper. Today might be the day to try
again! Peter (the clear thinking
skipper) |
