First Day Out
Christine's Atlantic Circuit

We are now at 48:35.9N 4:33.6W and the initiated might
realise that is L'Aber Wrac'h in northern Brittany. Since the plan had been to
sail direct to Northern Spain we haven't really got very far. Too long a story
to say why we stopped but the shower was lovely and because we are leaving this
evening we haven't even been charged.
When we left Plymouth on Sunday 26th it was a damp grey
old day, a real 'tupperware day', English summer. When we arrived in France at
9.00 this morning it was even worse though the sun has come out now. We had been
waved off by Terry and Sue and it was really marvellous to have people there
cheering us on. We had to be away by 12 because of an airshow which meant I
couldn't delay any longer, throw away the list and we were off.
The trip across was relatively uneventful, the first 11
hours was hard on the wind, not the best point of sailing, before the
wind veered sufficiently to ease the sheet. Relatively uneventful because when
Peter opened the fridge door, front opener, practically everything fell out.
Only after 2 of us had tried to reload it did we realise that the shelves were
the wrong way round. If that is the only thing to be wrong we will do very
well.
So leaving at 7.00 heading for Spain, again. Peter
L.
We are now sat in a lovely marina preparing to go back
out at around 7:00 this evening. Great to be back in sunshine after
a grey, damp crossing, just need to be away on time to catch a favourable tide
and hopefully avoid south westerlies which are coming our way. Peter N has
proved to be an excellent cook, providing two meals before we had even set
off. Chilli con carne was much appreciated by all except Andrew who felt
less than perfect. We are all (except the skipper!!) now wearing patches
behind our ears to prevent sea sickness which seem to be working.
Andrew.
