found out later that there is some kind of big yacht race scheduled to leave
Antigua on Monday. Could not find a slip but were able to tie up at the
fuel dock overnight. We quickly took on enough water for showers all
around. First one in almost 25 days... sure that is some kind of record for
me. The customs house had already closed for the day so we hoisted the 'q'
flag and went to town.
First dinner ashore... green salad, big gin and tonic, veal piccatta for
me... George had a fillet minion... Matt had the fruit plate desert for his
appetizer. Our first shock was picking up the menu and seeing most of the
meals were in the $55 rage. A couple of questions reveled a local currency
??? about 2.5 to 1 American.
Looking out the horizon we found lots of red lights on top of masts.... ( at
least 100 feet ). I got an email from our sailing friends Bruce and Pat on
Preserve... they were out there some place and going racing Monday. Matt
was duly impressed by the number of over $20 million yachts lying about.
'The is always someone with a bigger boat!"
this morning the fuel dock opened at 9:00 and we were there to take on fuel
(75 gallons)and water... after that it was off to the 'Epicurean" for the
big shop. The cab ride of a life time... but a good way to see the interior
of the island. About $250 on groceries and we were back in action. We
stopped in a customs and emigration and officially checked in and out of the
country so John could legally leave by plane. We had lunch with John who is
flying home tomorrow and it is off to meet George's wife Joann in St.
Thomas. She will get in tonight the 18th and then Jesse will arrive on the
22nd. We are about a day late and have no time to loose and are motoring in
light winds to get there ASAP. All is well.... later.
